Safety
measures and trying to make this life safer is an excellent endeavor.
However, if over done, you can become the proverbial mother
smothering her child and killing it to protect it. Life is dangerous,
but it’s life, to run from danger is sometimes to run from life.
That is why we call it life.
You
can live your life and you can survive your life. If you live in a
bomb shelter, eating canned beans all safe and nice, you probably
will never get hurt in your life. It would be safe. However, first
of all it would be boring, and you would probably die of boredom, but
it would be a lot safer than living outside of that bomb shelter.
Sure
you can live like that, but what type of life that is. It would be no
life at all. Picturing that in your mind, but on a less extreme case,
think of all the safety measures we put in our lives. It makes you
realize, how much do we not get to do or are trapped in, because it
“protects” us?
As
mentioned before, life is dangerous, riding bikes, owning cats, and
feeding hamsters are dangerous, but they are good things.
All
these safety measures we have put up for ourselves has killed life,
and not made life. Even our coffee is sometimes cold because we
could burn ourselves.
This
bubbled wrap lives is suffocating us like a bag over our head. And
the irony is, that this life is still going to be dangerous. Cars are
dangerous, people are dangerous, walking out the door is dangerous,
you could be hit by a meteorite.
It
makes you realize that you have to come to the point, do I love
safety more and predictability then I do life. You can live life in a
cave, and you’ll probably be fine, accept for probably feeling a
bit lonely and depressed. However, it would be safe. There are a lot
of things that can kill you out there.
Despite
our best bubbled wrapped lives, we still die. The attempt to fend of
death is quite noble sometimes, but rather quite futile. To a certain
extent, reasonable, but most of the time extreme. Life just has so
many dangers to fend off.
However,
it’s sometimes a chance you will have to take. The odds of dying
every day are very real. But they don’t stop us. Taking unnecessary
risks is foolish, but life is risk.
Trying
to stop every risk is unreasonable and unrealistic. In the end you
just end up trying to protect everything, including life itself. There
are always new exciting ways to die, but they shouldn’t stop you,
nor should others stop you. Walking outside is dangerous, climbing
trees equally so. But living without them makes life not as pleasant.
Danger is part of life, don’t run from it, just thrive from it.
