Poverty, While Surrounded By Riches

The poverty mentality is an interesting concept that it affects so many, and is so common, that rarely are people aware of it. Its something that all of us susceptible to a certain degree. However, you don’t have to be rich or poor to have it, you just need to have the nagging fear or worry about lack in the back of your mind, whenever you breath, think, or do anything.

When you grow up in a poor home or in a place where you have lack, it can be hard to shake off that feeling of lack. However, poverty doesn’t necessarily beget a poverty mentality. Rather that because of a feeling of lack that was believed or taught, this mentality came about.

With the poverty mentality, it operates in manner such as, money is the fore front of everything. Everything is measured by money in a person’s life, their goals and dreams are wrapped around money. Often the person will be controlled by money or the fear of not having it.

There was a story of a woman who lived through the depression. She had to save and scrap so her family could survive. However, after the depression passed and she was well off, she still believed that she was living in poverty. It was to such an extent this poverty mentality, that a simple donation of five dollars for a party, she panicked and said,”I can’t afford it.”

With a poverty mentality, it affects how you perceive everything, because you believe you will always lack. Always fighting for something, always struggling, never ever getting what you truly desire because at one stage, you were taught you couldn’t get something.

While there is a certain truth to it, the best lies are the half ones. Often, everything you desire or want, you can have if you work smart and hard for it. People can delude themselves in thinking that they are being frugal, grateful, content or whatever mentality, when in actuality, it is a poverty mentality. Money doesn’t solve all things in the world, but neither will poverty.

Believing that you will always lack, won’t just affect your view on money, it will affect your relationships, because you believe you will lack, and that you cannot get what you truly want. Making you someone who feels trapped and unable to get anything. This poverty spirit will follow you all your life, until you make the decision to change, and truly go after the things you want or desire; Not letting fear or poverty stop you.
