Technology Smashing You Down?

The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do. ~ B. F. Skinner

When horses were first introduced, there probably was an old timer complaining,”These new gadgets are so complicated, you have the hay and those whatcha ma call it? I don't even know what this ear does.” Nevertheless, despite technology's benefits to humanity, there will always be conflict over it.

In an ever changing world, technology is advancing faster and faster. It can be quite hard trying to find the balance of using, knowing how it works, and how it'll fit into our lives. Furthermore, it can sometimes be learning to embrace the benefits of it and learning to curse the drawbacks.

While technology is accused of the death of happiness, the continued suffering to others, and the breakdown of our society as we know it, it somewhat true as it is melodramatic.

Nevertheless, it does make some sense, phones take up our lives so that we don't have decent conversation, the television takes up our time, computers make us sit around all day and Twitter makes us lazy critters. It does sound a bit grim.

And sadly it's not just that, someone usually is suffering or dying to build those items as mentioned before.

However, are those things technology's fault. The answer would be no. While technology may help, at the end of the day, it's really up to us to use it responsibility and maturely. We cannot blame the tools that humanity has made to cover our failings.

Furthermore, to address the other issues surrounding technology, the lack of technology will not make you happy or a sea of it. Our happiness or our social lives is up to ourselves and not to the materials we have. Just like material wealth won't make you happy, so neither will material poverty make you happy.

Moreover, technology is a boon for humanity, it saves lives, makes life easier, and connects the world. If you're still not convinced, go camping, and dig that hole for your bathroom. Or even worse, switch of the electricity and water in your house for a day, and you'll realize how wonderful technology is.

In regards to technology, we shouldn't fear it, but we should be careful to not glorify it too much. It is a tool for humanity, and not a god. We should always be aware of it's flaws. Technology should not be our masters we should be so. For at the end of the day, its like a stone. It can be either used as a pillar for our society or the rock that smashes it.
